October 24, 2011…..The campaign for environmental protection, development and government efforts at providing a cleaner and healthier environment in Nigeria have received a massive boost as Hewlett Packard Nigeria Ltd on Monday October 24, 2011 embarked on a massive environment cleanup exercise at Odunjo Street Aguda, Surulere Lagos.
The event which was tagged “ Clean Environment Project” is aimed at supporting the present administration in Lagos state, in its campaign towards ensuring a clean and healthy community for the well being of the masses.
According to the Managing Director of Hewlett Packard Nigeria, Mr Ime Umo, “ we decided to embark on this laudable project because we don’t just believe in selling technology but for the community to feel our impact in ensuring that they keep a Save and Clean environment.”
“ it is a global initiative which is endorsed globally by HP in order to create an healthy atmosphere for the community and also by giving back to the society in terms of services”.
Umo also said that HP, as a global corporation, is turning to a shared value model, in which it works in alignment with society rather than against it by producing mutual benefits to both the community and the corporation.
“We are here to restate our commitment to environmental fortification and assure our consumers of quality products which helps in sharing HP’s values and technology where they are needed .
“ This approach evolves around the traditional model of financial and material goods donations, to one in which corporations leverage in a range of corporate assets including employee skills, business acumen and partner networks, to drive social change.” He said
He further explained that, HP has shown great commitment to promoting, protecting and educating Nigerians on the need to take good care of their environment as well as supporting various initiatives over the years.
Speaking in the same vein, the project Manager of ESSN and the Social Impact Country Lead, Mr. Chuks Okpaka, explained that the project aimed at ensuring cleanliness in the environment where they do business adding that organizations should support the government in ensuring a clean and healthy environment.
“The same passion, energy and culture of innovation that make a particular company successful are also used to make a profound and positive social impact in the world. We want the people to imbibe the spirit of cleanliness because prevention is better than cure and moreso Health is Wealth
Speaking about their partnership with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), he said “We are excited to partner with LAWMA in executing this noble exercise, base on their level of professionalism and engagement in this business of waste disposal.
“ In the last one month, I have gained incredible knowledge about their structures and practices. They operate a successful model, which I believe will soon be replicated in other states and countries in Africa.” Okpaka said.
